Top 10 Most Majestic Types of Giant Dogs Breed

While some individuals favor little dogs, others believe that large dogs are the best. Giant canines have a lot of advantages.

They’re large softies with charming, sensitive temperaments who imagine themselves to be lap loungers.

They are devoted to and guardians of their family pack. They’re also intelligent and usually simple to train.

Before adopting a huge dog breed, there are various considerations to consider. Larger dogs demand more of everything, from food to larger-scale supplies to more expensive veterinary care.

A larger dog also requires a larger housing space to move about comfortably.

If you’re looking for a gigantic friend, here are 10 of the best giant dog breeds.

Great Dane

This magnificent creature has the appearance of a tiny horse rather than a dog. In a crowd, Great Danes stand out.

The temperament of this breed, more than its appearance or size, is what makes it a good companion.

These dogs are typically kind, playful, sociable, and devoted. They look to be goofballs due to their size, but it’s their bigger limbs and plop-anywhere mentality that make them entertaining to be around.

Mastiff

Mastiffs are brawny on the surface, yet softhearted and easygoing on the inside.

Keep a rag nearby to wipe away the goo that drools from their enormous heads.

Their strong physique can knock people and stuff over in small places, so keep that in mind if you live in an apartment or a smaller house.

These massive dogs require plenty of living space and behavior instruction wherever they go.

Leonberger

The Leonberger is a big working dog with a sweet, sensitive personality. This breed is renowned to form strong bonds with its family and to have a keen sense of human emotions.

Leonbergers make wonderful family pets and therapy dogs.

Bullmastiff

In the mid-19th century, breeders crossed the mastiff and bulldog to get a powerful dog that could stop poachers.

Today’s bullmastiff remains a capable guard dog and a treasured companion.

Despite its somewhat intimidating appearance, this is a gentle giant that forms a solid bond with its family.

Newfoundland

Newfoundlands are wonderful friends as well as hard workers.

With their webbed feet and waterproof coats, they evolved into ideal water dogs, aiding fishing folk and saving people from drowning.

It’s in their nature to assist and protect—especially children—and always with a gentle spirit.

Saint Bernard

Commonly used in search-and-rescue and as service animals, Saint Bernards are giant dogs with even bigger hearts.

They tend to be gentle, loving family companions, often getting along well with children.

Some Saint Bernards don’t always realize how big they are, so training is a must for keeping them under control.

Dogue de Bordeaux

The Dogue de Bordeaux is a lovable, slobbery hunk of a dog.

This massive canine with a giant head looks fierce, but it mostly all for show; it is an extremely loyal and gentle breed.

It’s protective of its family and is a capable guard dog. This breed originated in France and is sometimes called the French mastiff.

Great Pyrenees

Great Pyrenees dogs are massive in power and have sweet dispositions.

Among the oldest dog breeds, this working dog has a long history of guarding sheep and protecting homes.

It is a very active breed that requires vigorous daily exercise and obedience training to produce a well-behaved dog.

Irish Wolfhound

Historically, Irish wolfhounds were battle and hunting companions, as well as guardians of homes.

In modern times, wolfhounds are primarily companion animals, though they have retained some hunting and protective instincts.

They need more space and exercise than some of the other giant breeds and generally do not thrive in smaller homes.

Neapolitan Mastiff

The Neapolitan mastiff is an Italian breed with historical roots dating back to the Roman army’s combat dogs. They eventually became guard dogs.

This breed is distinguished by its prominent wrinkles and loose skin, large bones, and ponderous movement. It is loyal and protective, yet often mellow and mild.

  1. “The Anatolian Shepherd is a Turkish breed of dog that is known for its large size and impressive strength. With a bite force of 743 PSI, this breed is the undisputed king of the canine world when it comes to raw power.

Typically used to protect against wolves, foxes, bears, and jackals in its native Turkey due to its intimidating size and capabilities as an effective guardian.

Anatolian Shepherds take the top spot as the dog with the strongest bite in the world. With a 743 PSI force that is more than three times that of an average dog, this breed can take down prey much larger than itself. So, if you are looking for a dog that is not only powerful but also fearless, an Anatolian is the breed for you!

This breed is fairly new. Please study and study some more before committing to owning one.

Training starts at 6 weeks and they are SMART and pick up commands FAST. If you don’t train or train to late, you’re going to have a BIG problem and out control dog which will end up at the pound and most likely euthanized. We have ours to where they are trained with ALL the basics by 8 or 9 weeks old.

After the basics you have train them to keep livestock/poultry safe. As a pup you have to make sure they do not go feral and turn into a killing machine. This does happen without time, patience and proper training.

Introduce them early to family members and your farm, livestock and poultry early on. Anatolians pick that part up fast and it comes naturally to them. (Mine are trained for my protection and all around the farm.)

This breed is not for everyone and they have to work and keep working, they are not a lap dog or apartment dog by ANY means. By the time you are done training, you are going to have the most dedicated, brave, fierce and loving breed.

    • I own two Caucasian ovcharkas and two Anatolian shepherds , my male Caucasian ovcharka is by far the strongest in all aspects of our dogs
Physical strength and bite force. Too much hype and no scientific evidence of any of these in line claims , other than rottweiler, German shepherd and pit bull .I’ve yet to find any other scientific evidence of the other breeds that are constantly mentioned.

      • Caucasian Shepherds & Caucasian Ovcharkas are the same breed.
Different countries use different names, i.e., Caucasian Shepherds – European, Caucasian Ovcharkas – Russians

    • I’ll stick with my male American Akita. I don’t have to go to a breed that cost probably more than my car to have a Trustworthy, Loyal, Nobel and Fierce Protector. Yes, and they were also used to hunt bear! They don’t fear anything! Anything happens, it would be to the death. IJS

    • It is n ot the best looking Newf, and I understand why you might think that it is a different type looking quickly. But upon closer inspection it is definitely one. The fur is long as you would expect, vs the very short Lab coat. It does not have a very large head, but it is very similar to my pure bread male.
