    This breed is fairly new. Please study and study some more before committing to owning one.

    Training starts at 6 weeks and they are SMART and pick up commands FAST. If you don’t train or train to late, you’re going to have a BIG problem and out control dog which will end up at the pound and most likely euthanized. We have ours to where they are trained with ALL the basics by 8 or 9 weeks old.

    After the basics you have train them to keep livestock/poultry safe. As a pup you have to make sure they do not go feral and turn into a killing machine. This does happen without time, patience and proper training.

    Introduce them early to family members and your farm, livestock and poultry early on. Anatolians pick that part up fast and it comes naturally to them. (Mine are trained for my protection and all around the farm.)

    This breed is not for everyone and they have to work and keep working, they are not a lap dog or apartment dog by ANY means. By the time you are done training, you are going to have the most dedicated, brave, fierce and loving breed.

    • I own two Caucasian ovcharkas and two Anatolian shepherds , my male Caucasian ovcharka is by far the strongest in all aspects of our dogs
      Physical strength and bite force. Too much hype and no scientific evidence of any of these in line claims , other than rottweiler, German shepherd and pit bull .I’ve yet to find any other scientific evidence of the other breeds that are constantly mentioned.

      • Caucasian Shepherds & Caucasian Ovcharkas are the same breed.
        Different countries use different names, i.e., Caucasian Shepherds – European, Caucasian Ovcharkas – Russians

    • I’ll stick with my male American Akita. I don’t have to go to a breed that cost probably more than my car to have a Trustworthy, Loyal, Nobel and Fierce Protector. Yes, and they were also used to hunt bear! They don’t fear anything! Anything happens, it would be to the death. IJS

    • It is n ot the best looking Newf, and I understand why you might think that it is a different type looking quickly. But upon closer inspection it is definitely one. The fur is long as you would expect, vs the very short Lab coat. It does not have a very large head, but it is very similar to my pure bread male.
