Some dogs have blue eyes as a recessive characteristic, while others have icy-colored irises as a breed signature. Other dogs with a specific coat color, such as merle (mottled patches) or piebald (a white coat with spots), are more likely to inherit blue eyes. Huskies, border collies, and Weimaraners are among the most prevalent breeds with blue eyes.
If your dog carries the merle or piebald gene, it cannot reliably produce pigment, explaining the light eyes. Some dogs, such as huskies, are more prone to heterochromia (two different colored eyes).
The American Kennel Club (AKC) specifically disqualifies many blue-eyed purebred dogs from the show ring because, while an individual dog may have blue eyes, the eye color may be deemed a defect for that breed. However, this does not preclude the dog from being an excellent pet.
Blue eyes are stunning, but if you see your dog’s eyes suddenly turning blue or hazy, have them tested for cataracts or glaucoma.
Siberian Husky

Cardigans with light eyes are not preferred in show rings unless they are accompanied by merle coats, yet they nonetheless look magnificent.
